Unidade Chapecó recicla poliuretano e reduz resíduos

Randon Implementos, operating the Chapecó Unit, in the State of Santa Catarina (SC), for fabrication of cold storage semitrailers, is performing strongly actions related to the technology and sustainability applied in the agribusiness segment. To assure the conservation and properties of foods transported at low temperatures in the four models of cold storage products, the company uses the polyurethane foam injection process controlled via supervision system to prevent wastage in the amounts sized, and also monitoring the waste generation. The project resulted in 32% reduction in the volume of waste, which is a relevant fact for the industrial unit, still in the consolidation phase, and experiencing the market restrictions imposed by the recessionary domestic market.

The initiative integrates the environment responsibility policy at Randon, which uses raw materials for fabrication of insulating foams free of HCFC expanding gas. In partnership with Puron Química, it is now producing foams supplied with Ecomate® gas. This is an environment-friendly and economically viable option, developed by the American company Foam Supplies, validated by the Montreal and Kyoto protocols, as they have the index that measures the ozone depletion potential (ODP) index, and the index that measures the global warming potential (GWP), equal to zero.

Fabrication of Randon semitrailers in Chapecó also counts on a reverse logistics and recycling project for the waste generated in the injection process, which shares the responsibility across the whole chain involved with polyurethane foam, from the supply of raw material to the use and final destination. In previous years, the polyurethane foam waste was forwarded to sanitary landfill. As from 2016, these materials are recycled and aggregated to other materials, using a technology developed by Devolva, which generated an alternative composite material with numerous applications in the market.
